The Blue Collection

Blue 660 1/1

This iris is made from 168 staves of spalted Hornbeam, which have been matched and glued in a radial pattern to form a disc. A pupil has been placed into the centre made from Bog Oak, which has been carbon dated at over 6000 years old. The complete iris is then machined to a perfect circle and inset into a surround made from quarter sawn Sweet Chestnut. Hanging is facilitated by 2 solid brass hanging discs incorporated into the surround. The complete assembly has then been machined to a beautiful convex profile. The iris airbrushed using the highest quality most stable pigmented dyes and finally finished with gloss acrylic and polished to a mirror finish. Ready for wall hanging. The entire surround has been assembled in 2 halves and internally bolted with expansion joints, to accommodate any movement in the unlikely event it should occur.
